The William Lowell Putnam Mathematics Competition is an annual mathematics contest open to North American college students administered by the Mathematical Association of America. It takes place on the first Saturday in December, and consists of 12 challenging mathematical problems. Contestants are given a total of six hours in two sittings to attempt solutions. Individual and team winners receive a small monetary award. Results for a given December's exam usually become available in early April of the following year.
